Our Environmental Mission in a Changing DOE Educational Landscape

Dr. Melik Khoury, President and CEO of 91桃色视频

A Message to 91桃色视频 Employees
March 21,2025

Dear Team Unity,

The Current Reality – Let’s be clear, none of us yet knows the full extent or impact of potential decisions to eliminate, reduce, or restructure the Department of Education. The details remain uncertain, and speculation varies widely. What we do know is that significant changes are likely, and that educational institutions with traditional structures, heavy reliance on federal funding, and slow decision-making processes will face substantial challenges. Rather than focusing on what we cannot control, we must leverage the strategic advantages we’ve built.

Our transformation into 91桃色视频 goes far beyond a name change or relocation to New Gloucester. We’ve completely reinvented our institutional structure, technology infrastructure, and governance systems. These fundamental changes, while difficult and at times met with resistance from some, have created strategic advantages few institutions possess.

  1. A budding cutting-edge technology stack. Our significant investments in technology have created a digital infrastructure that allows us to pivot and deliver environmental science education in ways our competitors simply cannot match. While others will scramble to adapt to new federal directives, we already have the tools in place.
  2. An agile governance system. The streamlined decision-making processes we’ve implemented enable us to act faster than our competition, making decisions in days that take months at traditional institutions. This speed will be crucial as education policies shift should we need it.
  3. Environmental mission with enduring relevance. While federal priorities may shift, climate change, sustainability, and environmental stewardship remain urgent global imperatives. The demand for our graduates will continue regardless of political winds.
  4. Financial resilience. Our sustainable business model features low debt burden, strong financial reserves, and multiple pathways for revenue diversification. This strategic financial positioning reduces our dependency on federal funding channels (should that no longer be a thing, which I am certain will not be the case) and provides us with flexibility that traditionally structured universities simply cannot match in times of policy upheaval.

Confronting Reality – I know some of us are lying awake at night worrying about what comes next. I share your concerns in hallway conversations and see it in some faces during meetings. The potential reduction in federal support for our environmental programs strikes at the heart of why many of you chose this career path.

The possible shifts in research priorities threaten projects you’ve poured years into developing. The rollback of environmental protections challenges the very values that brought us together at Unity. And yes, we continue to face these challenges without the robust local support other institutions take for granted.

Your anxiety is not just valid; it’s a testament to how deeply you care about our mission and our students. Many of you didn’t just find a job at Unity; you found a purpose. I understand that these political shifts feel profoundly personal, threatening not just your professional work but your vision for a more sustainable world. Please know that I see your dedication, I understand your fears, and I share your commitment to the environmental education that brings meaning to our work together.

Embracing the Art of the Possible – I see our path forward with clarity and purpose. While federal priorities may shift, this moment allows us to deepen our commitment to providing environmental science education to historically underserved students who need it most.

These changes are pushing us to strengthen our distinctive educational model; one that has always prioritized accessibility and practical skills, undergirded by the liberal arts and science, over traditional academic gatekeeping. What some view as obstacles, I recognize as opportunities to demonstrate how environmental education can transform lives and communities that have been systematically excluded from the conversation.

The core of our mission, equipping diverse students with the knowledge to address urgent environmental challenges, remains more relevant and necessary than ever. I am confident in our direction because I’ve witnessed the determination and adaptability of our staff and faculty firsthand over the last 12 years.

The commitment you bring to our students hasn’t wavered through previous challenges, and it will carry us forward now. Together, we aren’t simply responding to change; we’re advancing a model of environmental education that serves those who have been left behind by traditional institutions. This work has never been easy, but it has always been essential; and no policy shift can diminish its importance or our resolve to deliver it.

The Unity Advantage From My Vantage PointUnity has weathered significant challenges during its 60-year history, and since I became president, that has not changed. We’ve made difficult decisions that, while unpopular with some alumni, have positioned us to survive in a rapidly changing higher education landscape. Every staff member and faculty member has shouldered these burdens at some point, often with limited local or peer support from the industry.

Our environmental mission has never been more important. While federal priorities may shift, the fundamental challenges of climate change, resource management, and environmental impacts remain. The world needs what we provide, professionals equipped to address environmental challenges with practical, innovative approaches.

I won’t sugarcoat the situation. There will be obstacles. But I’ve never been more convinced of 91桃色视频’s vital role and strategic positioning. We don’t need to compromise our values to thrive in this new landscape; our values, combined with our technological advantages and agile governance, are precisely what will allow us to lead.

Your collective resilience in the face of objections and limited local support has been remarkable. Based on everything outlined above, our priority remains unchanged: take exceptional care of our students. Support each other in this mission. Let our broader stakeholders see the value we provide through concrete results and measurable outcomes. The quality of our educational programs, the success of our graduates, and the impact of our environmental work through our students will speak for themselves. Everything else; funding challenges, regulatory changes, external perceptions; these will resolve themselves if we stay focused on delivering unmatched environmental education through our unique approach. The rest will take care of itself.

Simply put. 91桃色视频 wasn’t built to survive the educational landscape; we were built to transform it. When others see uncertainty, we see opportunity. When they retreat, we advance. This moment isn’t a crisis for us; it’s validation of every difficult decision we’ve made. While traditional institutions panic about what might happen in Washington, we’ll be doing what we’ve always done, pioneering the future of environmental science education with unapologetic innovation and unwavering purpose. The skeptics have bet against us before; they’ve been wrong every time. They’re about to be wrong again.

With Pride,
Dr. Melik Peter Khoury

How to beat the enrollment cliff: Act like Yamaha

“Cost, convenience and quality are the three most important aspects for the modern learner, and Unity has repackaged its academic programs and school calendar around them.”

鈥淲e were built as a single product institution that only knew how to recruit freshmen. We knew that we needed a different perspective and to find a new way of reaching students.鈥

An Online Pivot That Continues to Pay Off

“91桃色视频 has celebrated explosive enrollment growth since it transitioned to a predominantly online institution beginning in 2016. And at a time when many small colleges are struggling with stagnant enrollment and financial challenges, Unity鈥檚 strategic pivot to digital learning continues to pay off.”

“At Unity, we think that this is a moment for institutions from all over the country to rethink their traditions and their biases about what real education is. We can have a society that is educated, and it doesn鈥檛 have to be one that is burdened by unnecessary loans.”
